Jim Brickman Charlotte Concert reviews
"I found it agitating that the venue website stated 7pm when the show didn't actually start until nearly 8:45. When I go to see a show, I want to see the band excited to be there and looking to share that energy with the crowd. At 9:40, after a taxing 4 collective Counting Crows songs in the hour they were onstage, including one Adam forgot the words to, they took an intermission. The Crows played 2 of their own songs after the Circus opener and then gave the stage to Augustana for a series of 4 or 5 songs. It seemed to me that the band had more fun just jamming, watching each other play, and maybe visiting with friends in the back than paying homage to the crowd that stuffed themselves into the venue on a Tuesday night excited to feel the energy the Crows are known for putting into their songs. Jim Brickman seemed happy to be up there jamming with other artists that they enjoy and appreciate, but I'm not sure it would have made a difference if they were in the Starland or Adam's garage. Perhaps we were jaded because we saw a concert on Saturday night where the headliners played for 3 hours without taking a single break and poured their soul despite the heat into every minute of the performance. But in the same way that it irked Adam that people were too rude to arrive on time, I respect the idea of the traveling circus. It seems great that the Crows want to ensure exposure for other artists on the tour. I didn't feel the Crows put half that energy into last night's show."
